Mr. Merton "Mert" Monroe Stoddard, 85

Mr. Merton "Mert" Monroe Stoddard, 85, of Canon City, passed away August 16th, 2010. Merton was born in Westport, SD on April 5, 1925, the son of the late Charles P and Joy C (Mincks) Stoddard. Mert proudly served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Paratroopers and Gliders. He is survived by his son's Len of Nevada, Lonnie of Washington, and daughter Linda of Idaho, and sister Bonnie of California.

Mr. Vernon Stanford Ballard, 84

Mr. Vernon Stanford Ballard, 84, of Canon City, passed away August 16th, 2010. He was born in Allison Township, IL on October 25, 1925, the son of the late William and Martha (Smith) Ballard. He lived in Fairbanks Alaska for over 30 years, then moved to Canon City, Colorado. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved moose hunting in the Alaskan wilderness. Vernon never found a stream in Alaska he would not fish. Vernon always had a smile and a joke for everyone, and he never did complain, or have a bad word about anyone.

Clarence Dale Thomas of Williamsburg passed away August 14, 2010. Clarence was born in Ardmore, OK on November 11, 1938, the son of the late Hershel and Ethel (Bell) Thomas. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war, and retired after 21 years with the Army. He was a member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion, of Canon City. Clarence is proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Nola, Rachel, Edith, Theda and Patsy, brother Orval Thomas, son-in-laws Ronny Crow and Tony Hays.

Mr. Martin Kattnig, Jr., 82, of Penrose passed away Monday, August 9th, in Canon City, CO. Martin was born in Florence, CO on April 17, 1928, the son of the late Martin and Pearl (Bone) Kattnig. He is proceeded by his parents and his wife Mary Arlene (Hoskis) Kattnig and is survived by his son Harold Kattnig. Direct cremation Charles Anthony Funeral Home.

Donald J Alleshouse, 103

Donald J Alleshouse of 984 Fremont in Penrose, Colorado went to join the Lord and his wife in heaven on Aug. 8, 2010. He was 103 years old. We will have a memorial Service on Aug. 28, 2010 at the River Walk Church of the Nazarene 701 Floral Street in Canon City at 5p.m. We would like anyone who would like to come and join us for this farwell and memory time. Larry Alleshouse Sr. and family will be glad to see all the people that Donald touched through his life. Thank you all for your prayers and concerns for the family.

Mr. Clarence Elmer Hassler, 78

Mr. Clarence Elmer Hassler, 78, of 515 Fairview Ave Canon City. , passed away Tuesday, July 27th, 2010. Clarence was born in Pueblo, CO on July 28, 1931, the son of the late Clarence Elmer and Della Mae (Delapp) Hassler. He was a self taught man who worked hard through his life, he cleaned pools in Arizona for awhile, and he was a worm farmer, and an avid gun collector and trader. Clarence married Ruth VanDerWerf January 29, 1966.

Mrs. Maria Sophia Marques, 75, of Florence passed away Sunday, July 25th, 2010. Sopiha was born in San Acacio, CO on February 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Adonias and Helen M (DeHerrera) Garcia. Sophia was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. When moving to Florence in 1964, she was a Foster mother to many children. Some of her interests and hobbies at this time were crocheting, bowling, and singing in the church Choir at St. Benedict's Church. After her late husband, Lenard's retirement, together they owned and operated "Sophia's Trading Post".

ROSEMARY PYLE

Rosemary Pyle, 58, Passed away peacefully at her home on July 24, 2010. She was born to John and Gabriela Miller. Mrs. Pyle was raised in Pueblo and moved to Fremont County. In Fremont County she started her family and career. She received her LPN license and joined the medical field and had been employed at Canon Lodge for many years. Mrs. Pyle enjoyed fishing, bowling, crocheting, playing piano, and Gardening. Her favorite pastime was going to Cripple Creek. She is survived by Bill Pyle of the family home. Her children Kimberly (Joshua) and Brian. Her step-children T.J. and Stacy.

James "Jim" Bogeart Sr. died July 6, 2010, at his home of cancer. He was 78. Jim was born in McClave, Colo., on July 23, 1931, to Roy and Mamie Bogeart. He served as a medic in the Korean War. Later, he retired from truck driving and went into business for himself at Three B Enterprises Field & Yard Mowing. He married his wife in Colorado on Aug.

Former Canon City resident Don Long ,75, passed from this life Tuesday, June 22,2010, in Mesquite, Nev., after a lengthy illness. Don was born Dec 15, 1934 on the family farm Northwest of Ringwood Oklahoma to Edward and Minnie Long. Don attended Ringwood Public Schools and later joined the US Army. Don and his family moved to Canon City in 1976, from Enid, Ok. He lived here until 1987, when he moved to Denver, then later to Mesquite. Don is survived by his; daughter Donna (Philip) Cristelli of Canon City.
