Abbey Winery to release 2008 Colorado Merlot DivinityOn Saturday, February 13th and Sunday, February 14th, the Tasting Room at The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey will be celebrating the release of their 2008 Colorado Merlot Divinity with samplings of organic and raspberry chocolates from Chocolove. Only 250 cases of this popular dessert wine were produced.

M&M Paints Help Local CommunityAt the end of 2008, Dave McCall, owner of M&M Paints, decided to give back to the community by offering a free exterior paint job to a deserving individual. In January, 2009, Ben Abila was chosen the lucky winner from the many nominations received. Ben Abila had been in a serious motorcycle accident and was facing major surgery. He knew his home needed to be painted but was physically and financially unable to do the job.
AARP Safe Driving ClassAARP Safe Driving Program will be held February 9th and 10th. Class commences at 1 p.m. at the Golden Age Center in Canon City. This program was created to encourage safe driving among adults 50 and older. The class runs four hours each day from 1 to 5 p.m.
For AARP members who bring their membership cards, the cost is $12. For non-members of AARP the cost is $14. A personal check is most acceptable.
The program has served over ten million adults since its inception in 1979. The majority of participants receive an insurance discount on their vehicle insurance.
Nature's EducatorsNature’s Educators is a private wildlife education business in Canon City whose goal is to teach anyone and everyone the importance of keeping wildlife wild and the dynamics of birds of prey.
Nature’s Educators travel to schools, fairs, camps, meetings, and the like to give presentations about raptors and wildlife. There’s something for everyone and each program will be tailored to fit the audience’s age, scientific background, time allotted, location, and material requested by the host.
Senior Mini Collegehe Fremont Campus-Pueblo Community College will present the 25th Annual Senior Mini College March 22-26, 2010.
The College and the Senior Mini College committee are gearing up for the week-long event and are seeking presentation proposals from potential instructors. Program proposal applications are available at the PCC Fremont Campus or at http://www.pueblocc.edu/Campuses/FremontCampus/Visitors.htm. The deadline to submit proposals is Jan. 30.
The Senior Mini College is a week-long program including courses and hands-on activities for area senior citizens.
35th Annual Safety Town USAFremont County Head Start is in the planning stages for the 35th Annual Safety Town USA. This year’s event will be held on April 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2010. The Head Start Program has been serving children and families throughout Fremont County since 1967. Head Start began in the Nation in 1965.
This event will be open to the public and free of charge. Over 900 children attended last year and we’re anticipating an even bigger and better event this year!
Each day will consist of a puppet show and a variety of safety stops for each group. The first show will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Tom Piltingsrud Announces candidacy for District Two Fremont County CommissionerTom Piltingsrud, former Florence City Manager, recently announced his candidacy for Fremont County Commissioner of District Two.
“My experience guides me and my dedication drives me to seek this position,” said Piltingsrud.
Piltingsrud’s experience comes from seven years as City Manager, where he served on numerous city, county and state committees.
“Using my combined career experiences, I will be able to address any issue that I will face as commissioner,” he said.
Besides working on the city government level, Piltingsrud draws his experience from a long career in the United State
