Bonfils Blood DriveThis holiday season as you think about giving heart-warming gifts to your friends and family, consider also giving the ultimate heart-warming gift that’s already inside you – give blood. Make a meaningful impact in the lives of patients in need. The winter months are often the most difficult to maintain Colorado’s blood supply due to holiday activities, poor weather and road conditions and cold and flu season. Golden Age Center Says, "Thanks"The Golden Age Center in Canon City wishes to thank all of the local businesses who show their support for the Volunteer of the Month program. Each month, a name is selected out of their many volunteers to be recognized for that month. Along with a certificate of appreciation, a $10 gift certificate is presented from an area restaurant. The restaurants who supported to volunteer of the month program in 2011 were DiRito’s, Torrero’s, Pizza Madness, El Caporal, Good Thyme Cafe and Village Inn. The Golden Age Center wishes to thank them for their participation in this program. Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church To Host Living NativityMembers of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will present the 13th annual Living Nativity to help celebrate the Christmas season. It will be held on Saturday, December 10th from 6 p.m. til 8 p.m. The Living Nativity program will once again feature live animals. The church will be collecting a free-will donation to benefit Mercy Today Ministries. Please invite your family and friends to join you for a tour of lights on Candy Cane Lane (Woodlawn Avenue) and view the Living Nativity. To drive past the nativity at 801 Sheridan, go North on 15th Street and turn onto Woodlawn Avenue. At the second stop sign, turn right onto Sheridan. Or, go North on 9th Street to College Avenue. From College Avenue, turn left onto Sheridan one block from the high school. Local Couple Hit Lottery JackpotThere isn’t a much better way to celebrate your 49th wedding anniversary than to find out that you are $1.3 million richer. That is exactly what happened for one Fremont County couple recently. The couple collected their prize worth $1.3 million which is just shy of half of the $2.7 million jackpot after taxes were taken out. The couple, who asked to remain annonymous, don’t plan to change their lifestyle dramatically. The winning ticket was purchased at Hank’s Travel Plaza Kwik Stop in Canon City. They will receive a $5,000 prize for selling the winning ticket. Expect Delays On Oak Creek Grade WednesdayMotorists who travel Oak Creek Grade Road South of Canon City will encounter delays on Wednesday, November 30th. Fremont County Department of Transportation Director Tony Adamic said his office has been notified by Black Hills Energy that crews will have to block Oak Creek Grade Road for 20 to 30 minute intervals on Wednesday, November 30th. Adamic said Black Hills notified him that crews will be working on the large power transmitter line on top of Oak Creek Grade between mile markers 9 and 10, which will require equipment to block the roadway periodically throughout the day. Adamic said Black Hills has hired Work Zone to post flaggers along the road to direct traffic, and will also post warning signs in advance of the road closures to warn motorists. Adamic said motorists who use Oak Creek Grade Road may want to adjust their travel plans accordingly on November 30th. Florence High School Band Arts and Crafts ShowThe Florence High School Band is hosting its 4th annual arts and crafts fair on Saturday, December 10th from 9 til 4, and Sunday, December 11th from from 12 til 6 p.m at Florence High School located at 2006 Highway 67 in Florence. The show will feature handcrafted treasures, and will showcase artistic talent from accross the state of Colorado. Just in time for the holidays, find the perfect gift for that special someone, or find something fantastic for yourself. The band will be selling brimming bowlfulls of homemade soups and stews. Additionally, there will be an in-house portrait artist, working in charcoal, all weekend. Support Colorado artisans, and the Florence High School Band as you do your holiday shopping.
